How to back up 2FA keys and move Key369 to a new phone
Start the move while you still have your old phone. Reinstalling the app alone does not bring back local keys. Restoration needs a previously created backup and its password.
Choose a transfer method
An encrypted file
Create a file, store it away from the phone and transfer it to the new device. Opening it requires that file’s password. Export and restoration remain available after PRO expires.
A cloud backup
Verify your email and choose a separate cloud backup password. Data is encrypted on the device before upload. Writing cloud updates is available during the trial or an active PRO subscription.
You can use both: cloud backup for an up-to-date copy and a separately stored file as an additional recovery route.
Create and save a backup file
- Unlock Key369 on the old device.
- Open backup settings. In the iPhone web app, open “Settings” and choose “Create backup”.
- Choose a backup password. Keep it separately from the file.
- Choose “Save backup file” and confirm that the .authbackup file exists in your chosen location.
- Store a copy outside the old phone, for example on a computer or in your own file storage.
Creating a file and saving it are separate actions. A backup-ready message does not mean the file has already been transferred to another device.
Restore on the new device
- Install Key369. On iPhone, first add the web app to the Home Screen from Safari, then open its new icon.
- Create the local vault and open backup settings.
- Choose “Restore backup”, select your saved .authbackup file and enter its password.
- Check the number of entries shown and confirm restoration.
- Check that the accounts appeared. Test a sign-in to at least one service while the old device is still available.
Your new local vault password may differ from the file password. Decrypting an imported backup requires the password used for that backup.
Move using a cloud backup
On the old device, verify your email, connect cloud backup with a separate password and wait for a successful sync. On the new device, sign in with the same email, open “Cloud” and enter the same cloud backup password.
On iPhone, cloud sync runs while the web app is open and the cloud backup is unlocked. Sync and check its status before replacing your phone. Background sync while the app is closed is not promised.
Your paid subscription is associated with your verified account. This does not replace a backup or recover a forgotten backup password. An email verification code cannot provide the decryption password.
When to remove the old app
After restoration and a successful sign-in test on the new device. Keep a working backup file and the services’ own recovery codes. Update your backup after adding accounts.
